COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team drops the first game of the series against Augusta by a score of 1-0 on Friday, April 14. The Cougars are now 25-12 on the season and are 12-10 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Jaguars have won their fourth game in a row and are 21-18 (12-13 PBC)
In what was a pitchers duel to the end, Columbus State's
Noah Windhorst and Augusta's Mason Bernard were trading zero's till the ninth inning. Windhorst tossed 8.1 innings of no earned run ball while striking out a season-high nine Jaguars. The junior right hander scattered seven hits while only walking one. Bernard was just as impressive as he threw a complete game shutout while striking out three Cougars and only walking one.
The lone run of the game came in the top of the ninth when Augusta had the bases loaded with one out. The batter was jammed on an inside fastball from
Peyton Burton but he had enough on it to be hit hard enough to get to
Matthew McDade at second but not hard enough to turn two. The Cougars were then sat down in order in the bottom half of the ninth to end the game.
