COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team ties up their series up against the Augusta Jaguars with a win toady by a score of 11-0. The Cougars are now 26-12 overall on the season and 13-10 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Jaguars fall to 21-19 and 12-14 inside PBC play.
It took the Cougars a couple of innings to get things going on offense but they were relentless after the second inning.
Connor Kirley got the scoring started with his second home run of the season and his first home run at Ragsdale Field during his five year Cougar career. The two-run blast broke a 12 inning scoreless streak for the offense.Â
In the fourth inning,
Will Wilbanks blasted a no-doubt shot to right field into the net to put the Cougars up by three.
Matthew McDade started his two hit day with a double into right field to score
Derek Wylie. CSU scored another run in the inning via the walk. Columbus State kept the scoring going in the fifth inning with another
Matthew McDade double and a
Connor Kirley single to left to bring home two more runs. They would then score another run off a miscue from the Jaguar defense.
In the sixth inning, Columbus State would score three runs off of singles from
Will Wilbanks,
Win Johns, and
Ian King. The offensive onslaught saw CSU totaling 12 hits which ties their sixth highest hit total on the season.
Colton Joyner turned in another dominant performance on the mound as he tossed his second scoreless outing of the season. Joyner pitched a complete game on seven innings while striking out five while only allowing three hits. Joyner now has more strike outs this year than any year of his Cougar career.
