Bluftton, Sc. - The Columbus State University baseball team earns their 30th win of the season against the University of South Carolina Beaufort on Saturday, April 22. The Cougars have won their fifth in a row and are now 30-12 on the season and 16-10 inside the PBC. USCB falls to 12-28 and 5-21 in the Peach Belt Conference.
The Sand Sharks got the lead for the first time in the series in the bottom of the third when they knocked a base hit up the middle to score two with two out. The Cougars responded in the top half of the fourth with two runs of their own. They loaded the bases with no out and hit two sacrifice flies off the bat of
Matthew McDade and
Ian King. CSU would take a 3-2 lead on USCB in the fifth inning with a RBI-single from
Will Wilbanks and then extend the lead with a bases loaded walk from
Win Johns.
Columbus State would add an extra insurance run in the sixth with a RBI-double off the bat of
Isaac Bouton. This was one of two hits from the Cougars leadoff hitter.
Colton Joyner would turn in another quality start as he went seven innings giving up three earned runs, eight hits, while collecting five strikeouts. Joyner moves inside the top-5 in the PBC with 71.1 innings pitched.
Cole English tossed a perfect eighth then turning the ball over to
Peyton Burton who earned his fifth save of the season while striking out two.

The Cougars will look to keep their momentum going and to sweep USC Beaufort on Sunday, April 23. This will be Columbus State's third game on their seven game road trip to end the season.
