Cougars set a season-high 19 hits in win against USCB

CSU finishes off three game sweep of the Sand Sharks.

Bluftton, Sc. - The Columbus State University baseball team finishes off a three game sweep of the University of South Carolina Beaufort on Sunday afternoon by a score of 14-1. CSU is red hot and the win brings them to 31-12 on the season and 17-10 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Sand Sharks are now 12-29 and 5-22 PBC.

Derek Wylie got the scoring started in the fourth inning with a two-run shot to left field to give CSU the lead. The is Derek's PBC leading 15th of the season. Steven Minter came up in the sixth inning and delivered an RBI-triple to score Isaiah Hernandez. This would be Minter's fifth RBI of the weekend. Derek Wylie continued to knock the cover off the ball with a single to left to score Minter. 

The eighth inning was a wild one as the Cougars scored nine runs on nine hits. CSU would slap eight singles in the eighth inning to put themselves over 10 or more runs in five out of the last six games. In the game, Steven Minter, Will Wilbanks, Derek Wylie, and Ian King would have two hits, Isaiah Hernandez and Connor Kirley would total three hits, and Win Johns would lead the Cougars with four hits in the ballgame.

The Sand Sharks would score their lone run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-ground out but that's all they would muster off of the senior right hander, Zack Brockman. Brockman would toss his second longest outing of the season at 7.2 innings pitched and he would scatter five hits, and strike out a season-high seven batters. He would give way to Ryan Suppa after throwing 111 pitches and Suppa would record the final out of the game via run rule.

UP NEXT:
Columbus State will continue their road trip on Wednesday, April 26 when they travel to Montevallo, Alabama to take on the Falcons in a midweek matchup. The Cougars defeated Montevallo earlier in the season by a score of 4-0.
