COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's soccer team defeated Peach Belt Conference opponent Lander University 1-0 on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Walden Soccer Complex. The Cougars improve to 3-3-1 (2-0-1 PBC) and the Bearcats fall to 5-1 (1-1 PBC).
Columbus State took the lead very early in the contest when sophomore
Sarah Hungerford scored her third goal of the season in the fourth minute. The Cougars had many chances to score, however, tallying 24 shots total and nine shots on goal.
CSU's defensive line of
Brooke Ouimette,
Carley Canzoneri and
Juanita Escobar kept Lander's offense from having any real chance of scoring as the Bearcats had only seven shots and two on goal, which goalkeeper
Lizzie Hedrick saved.
The Bearcats' goalie, Leah Hayes-Coen, recorded eight saves.
