SALISBURY, N.C. - The 17th-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team fell short to 11th-ranked Catawba College Friday night in Salisbury, N.C. With the tough loss, the Cougars drop to 0-2 while the Indians improve to 4-0.
Catawba opened up the scoring in the sixth minute when Sydney Jimmo found the back of the net, then teammate Helen Summerell increased Catawba's lead to 2-0 with a goal in the eighth minute.

Emma Beddow put the Cougars' on the board after scoring a penalty kick goal in the 10th minute, making it 2-1 Catawba. It was scoreless until Catawba's Bree Ehmer and Morgan Delair scored goals in the 35th and 38th minutes, heading into halftime with a 4-1 lead over CSU.
In the first 14 seconds of the second half, Jimmo scored off of a penalty kick to give Catawba a 5-1 lead. Just three minutes later, junior
Lauren Barnes scored in the 48th minute to minimize the Indians' lead. However, just a few plays later, Summerell made it 6-2 with a goal.
The Cougars made a comeback, scoring three goals and holding Catawba to six. Hungerford scored in the 54th minute, assisted by Beddow. It was then
Faith Knoedler who found the net in the 77th minute and Barnes picked up the assist there. In the 82nd minute,
Brooke Yount filled the gap and minimized the score to 6-5 after scoring the final goal of the night. Beddow tallied her second assist in that play.
Goalkeepers
Lizzie Hedrick and
Heidi Harris each recorded two saves for the Cougars. The Indians out shot the Cougars 18-15 (10-9 SOG).

Columbus State will have a day of rest before playing Lincoln Memorial University on Sunday, Sept. 10 at noon in Harrogate, Tenn.
