COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University men's basketball team dropped a home game to Peach Belt Conference opponent Lander University 67-70 Saturday afternoon in the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center. The Cougars fall to 9-8 (3-5 PBC) and the Bearcats improve to 153 (7-1 PBC).
Lander controlled the first quarter of play, holding Columbus State to only 28 points, while scoring 35. After halftime, however, the Cougars came out of the locker room hot, outscoring the Bearcats 39-35 and forcing a one-point game with less than two minutes to play.
Lander hit a good three-pointer, but
Jehloni James responded with his sixth three-pointer of the afternoon to minimize Lander's lead back to one. A good Lander layup with seven seconds left lifted the Bearcats to victory.
Jarrett Adderton led the Cougars with 22 points, shooting 60 percent from the field (9-15), 40 percent from behind the arc (2-5) and a perfect 2-2 from the free-throw line. James tallied a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The senior shot 75 percent (6-8) from the three-point line and 54 percent (7-13) from the field.
Jydon Hall also scored 12 points off the bench.

Columbus State will travel to Bluffton, S.C. on Wednesday, Jan. 31 for a PBC matchup against USC Beaufort at 7:30 p.m.
