AIKEN, S.C. – No. 3 Columbus State Women's Soccer traveled to Aiken, S.C. on Saturday afternoon for a Peach Belt Conference match at USC Aiken.
The Lady Cougars (11-0-1, 5-0-0 PBC) remain unbeaten, striding in a 3-0 win over the Pacers (2-9-2, 1-5-0 PBC) at the "Pacer Pit."
First Half
Both teams traded shots on goal within the first eight minutes of play with USC Aiken registering the first shot at the 5:05 mark followed by a shot from
Emma Beddow in the seventh minute. The Pacers pressured the Lady Cougars with another shot on frame at the 7:12 mark as
Heidi Harris tallied her second save of the match.
Over the next 27 minutes, Columbus State registered seven total shots with three being saved by the home keeper. In the 34th minute, CSU took advantage of a foul in the box which resulted in a penalty kick opportunity.
Vanessa Aviles took command and slotted home her fifth goal of the season, giving the Lady Cougars a 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Cougars closed out the half with two more attempts, but the pair of shots missed the mark. CSU tallied an 11-2 shot advantage in the half while also leading 6-0 in corner kicks.
Second Half
Columbus State continued the attack early and pressured the home keeper with a couple of shots on goal until
Abigail Akerson found the back of the net in the 53rd minute. Akerson headed in a cross from
Anna LaBarbera for the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Cougars followed up with a third goal in the 57th minute as
Michelle Medina headed in a cross from
Faith Knoedler for her seventh score of the season. CSU produced double-digit shots, attempting to further the lead but were not successful as the game ended in a 3-0 win.
