COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team lost to Talladega College 3-10 Wednesday evening at Ragsdale Field at Burger King Stadium. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 3-5 overall.
The Tornadoes came out strong, scoring nine runs in the first four innings. With bases loaded and zero outs, Talladega had back-to-back hits right field to help score four runs. TC scored two runs in the second off of two hits, and did the same thing in the third. Talladega made it a 9-0 ballgame in the fourth with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.
Columbus State got on the board in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI single through the right side by
Andrew Rubin, scoring
Colby Brabston from third base. Brabston got on base from a hit-by-pitch, and moved around the bases after a ground out and single by
Cole Eison.
In the sixth inning the Cougars picked up some offensive momentum, forcing bases loaded with no outs. However, CSU only plated one run from an Eison fielder's choice to second base, scoring
Derek Wylie from third.
The Tornadoes tallied another run in the seventh after a throwing error by CSU's third baseman, allowing the runner who was on second base to score, making it 10-2. Wylie jacked a solo home run in the eighth to give Columbus State another run.
Jackson Chizek led the Cougars with two hits and Wylie recorded one hit and two runs. CSU had six pitchers make an appearance Wednesday evening, with
Ryan Suppa collecting the loss.
