Baseball Extends Win Streak to Three after Beating Quincy

The Cougars beat Quincy 10-3 Friday afternoon.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team extended their win streak to three games after beating Quincy University 10-3 Friday afternoon. CSU improves to 6-7 overall.

Columbus State scored four runs in the first three innings to take an early lead over the Hawks. The Cougars scored their first two runs off of fielding errors by Quincy, and Win Johns ripping a triple to right center field, then making it home on a fielding error.

In the sixth, Quincy scored off of two CSU errors to make it a 4-2 ball game. Johns doubled in the next half inning, plating Colby Brabston, and Ian King hit a RBI single up the middle to score Johns, giving the Cougars a 6-2 lead.

The Hawks added another run in the eighth off of a CSU fielding error. In the bottom of the eighth, the Cougars tallied four more runs. Isaiah Hernandez reached on a fielder's choice, forcing Brabston to score. Trevor Gruszka then tripled down the right field line, plating Hernandez and Johns. Gruszka ended up scoring off of a wild pitch to make it 10-3.

Johns led CSU with three hits, and Brabston and King each tallied two. Johnny Dow earned the win on the mound after striking out six batters in 6.0 innings pitched. Cole English pitched 2.0 innings and struck out two, and Peyton Burton closed and didn't allow any hits in his one inning.

Columbus State and Quincy will play the last game of the three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ragsdale Field.
