ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Columbus State University baseball team swept Eckerd College in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 3 in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Cougars took game one 26-12 and won 9-2 in the nightcap.
GAME 1: CSU 26 EC 12
- Derek Wylie hit an RBI single in the first inning to give CSU a 1-0 lead
- CSU scored three runs in the fourth with Luke Hasty starting the rally with a bases loaded walk, Andrew Rubin grounded into a double play, scoring Seth Nelson and Cody Ferguson hit an RBI single to centerfield to plate Trevor Gruszka
- The Cougars scored 11 runs in the sixth inning, with Wylie being the highlights of the inning, smacking a three-run home run and a grandslam
- Eckerd tallied nine runs in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the seventh, making it a 15-11 ballgame heading into the eighth
- CSU scored five runs in the eighth and six in the ninth to seal the victory
- Andrew Rubin went 3-for-6 with a home run, two doubles and four RBIs, Wylie finished 4-for-7 with two homers and eight RBIS, Trevor Gruszka went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Jackson Chizek was 3-for-5 with a triple and Win Johns also recorded three hits and hit a triple
- Eric Moore collected the win on the mound after 4.0 innings pitched and striking out four batters
GAME 2: CSU 9 EC 2
- Johns hit a two-run home run in the first inning to put the Cougars ahead 2-0
- In the second, Chizek hit an RBI single through the left side to make it 3-0
- Johns hit his second homer of the game in the third, a solo shot, and Ian King scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, making it 5-0
- Eckerd scored two runs in the fourth to minimize CSU's lead to three runs
- Rubin collected an RBI with a single up the middle, scoring Wylie from second in the seventh
- CSU scored three runs in the eighth, including an RBI double from Johns
- Johns finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs, Colby Brabston went 3-for-4, and Derek Wylie and Ian King each tallied two hits a piece
- Johnny Dow received the win after 6.0 innings pitched and Trace Goforth recorded a save, pitching 3.0 innings. Both Dow and Goforth had three strikeouts each

The Cougars will host Albany State University on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. at Ragsdale Field at Burger King Stadium for the season's home opener.
