Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Lander

The Cougars lost to Lander 5-2 and 2-1.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Peach Belt Conference opponent Lander University on Saturday, March 16 at Ragsdale Field. The Cougars fall to 15-11 overall and 4-4 in the PBC.

Game 1: CSU 2 LU 5
  • Lander took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning of a CSU fielding error
  • The Bearcats added three more runs in the sixth off a wild pitch, a RBI ground out and a sacrifice fly to center field
  • In the ninth, LU made it 5-0 with a RBI single up the middle, however, CSU minimized their lead by scoring two runs. Andrew Rubin hit a RBI single up the middle to score Cody Ferguson and Kole McGlumphy hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Rubin
  • Ferguson, Rubin and Derek Wylie each tallied two hits, and Colton Joyner earned the loss after 6.0 innings of work
Game 2: CSU 1 LU 2
  • The Bearcats got on board in the third inning with a RBI ground out
  • Lander scored another run in the sixth thanks to a solo home run to right center
  • Win Johns gave the Cougars the only run of the game, hitting a RBI single to center field, plating Wylie
  • CSU tallied three hits in the game with Johns, Wylie and Chizek each recording one
  • Johnny Dow received the loss after pitching 7.0 innings
