COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team scored 10 runs in the first inning to beat Peach Belt Conference foe Lander University 10-3 at Ragsdale Field on Suday, March 17. With the win, CSU improves to 16-11 (5-4 PBC).
The Cougars had a big first inning, scoring 10 runs off of seven hits. With bases loaded,
Colby Brabston singled to third base, scoring
Cody Ferguson.
Kole McGlumphy then singled to right field to plate
Andrew Rubin.
Isaiah Hernandez drew a bases loaded walk to make it 3-0, and
Luke Hasty followed up with a bases clearing triple right field to extend CSU's lead to 6-0.
After Hasty,
Jackson Chizek singled to score Hasty and Ferguson hit a single right after Chizek. With runners on first and second and two outs,
Derek Wylie launched a three-run homer to left center field to make it a 10-ballgame.
Lander scored two runs in the third inning thanks to a home run, and added another run in the fifth inning off of a sacrifice fly.
Trace Goforth collected the win on the mound after 6.0 innings of work and improves to 4-2. He struck out five batters and allowed two hits. Brabston led the Cougars with two hits.

Columbus State will travel to the Livingston, Ala. on Tuesday, March 19 to play the University of West Alabama at 4 p.m.
