LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The Columbus State University baseball team dominated the University of West Alabama Tuesday afternoon 17-4 on the road. With the win, CSU improves to 17-11.
The Cougars got a 5-0 lead in the third inning thanks to a single from
Cody Ferguson and a grand slam from
Colby Brabston. Brabston extended CSU's lead to 6-0 in the fifth with a RBI single up the middle.
In the sixth, the Tigers got on board by scoring off of a balk and a two-run RBI double to right center field.Â
Luke Hasty made it a 9-3 in the eighth inning after ripping a three-run home run. He gave the Cougars two more runs in the ninth with a double to left center. In the ninth inning, CSU scored eight runs to blow the Tigers out of the water, starting with Hasty's double.
Jackson Chizek hit a RBI single to center to score Hasty, Brabston batted in two more runs with a double, and
Win Johns jacked a three-run homer to put the Cougars at 17 runs.
UWA scored one run in the bottom of the ninth off a sacrifice fly to center field.Â
Brabston led the Cougars with seven RBI and three hits. Ferguson,
Andrew Rubin and Johns also tallied three hits each. After 5.0 innings pitched,
Ryan Suppa earned the win, striking out six batters and allowing four hits.
UP NEXT
Columbus State will return to Peach Belt Conference play this weekend as the Cougars will travel to Aiken, S.C. to play USC Aiken on March 22-24.
