AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Columbus State baseball team dominated Peach Belt Conference opponent Augusta University 18-7 Friday night on the road.
The Cougars out-hit the Jaguars 15-13. Augusta took a 2-0 lead in the first but CSU bounced back, scoring four runs in the second inning, thanks to a
Seth Nelson three-run home run and a wild pitch, plating
Cody Ferguson. The Jags got within one run in the third with a solo homer.
CSU had a huge fifth inning, scoring five runs off of four hits and one error.
Win Johns and Ferguson each collected RBI singles,
Kole McGlumphy added a RBI sac fly, Johns scored off an error and
Jackson Chizek stole home on a wild pitch.
Augusta scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth off of four hits.
The Cougars stayed hot, scoring six runs in the sixth inning. McGlumphy singled (RBI), Ferguson singled (RBI), Rubin hit a two-run double, Hasty walked with bases loaded and Nelson collected a sac fly. Columbus State added three more runs in the eighth thanks to another bases loaded walk, a fielder's choice and a wild pitch.
Colton Joyner received the win on the mound after 5.0 innings of work. Ferguson, Rubin, Wylie, Brabston, McGlumphy, Hasty and Nelson each tallied two hits.

CSU and AU will play the second game of the series on Friday at 4 p.m.
