AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Columbus State baseball team dropped the second game of the three-game series to Peach Belt Conference foe Augusta University Friday evening.
After Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Cougars scored three runs in the top of the third to gain the lead.
Andrew Rubin reached first on a fielder's choice, allowing
Jackson Chizek to score from third, then
Win Johns and
Kole McGlumphy each hit RBI singles.
Chizek made it 4-1 in the fourth with a solo homer, but the Jaguars also hit a homer to minimize the Cougars' lead. In the fifth, AU tied the game with a two-run single to right field. Wylie made it 5-4 with a RBI double in the seventh, but the Jags took back the lead in the eighth, scoring two more runs.
In CSU's last at-bat, Johns ripped a two-run single to take a 7-6 lead, then
Luke Hasty extended the Cougars' lead to 8-6 with a RBI double. However, Augusta got the best of CSU, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run double and a walk-off hit-by-pitch RBI.
Joey Gill received the loss inside the circle for the Cougars and Johns led CSU at the plate with two hits and three RBI.
Cody Ferguson, Rubin and Hasty also each tallied two hits.

Columbus State and Augusta will play the final game of the series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
