AMERICUS, Ga. - The Columbus State University baseball team defeated Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia Southwestern State University in the second game of the series on Saturday evening.
The Cougars out-hit the Hurricanes 7-6 in the victory and
Johnny Dow received the win on the mound after pitching 6.1 innings and recording three strikeouts.
Leo Giannoni earned the save after 2.1 innings pitched, striking out four.
Columbus State got on the board early, scoring one run in the first inning thanks to a bases loaded walk and another run in the third off of a
Jackson Chizek RBI bunt-single to the pitcher, scoring
Colby Brabston. Georgia Southwestern scored one run in the bottom of the third with a solo home run.
Kole McGlumphy hit a RBI single up the middle in the fourth, scoring
Win Johns, to make it 3-1, but the Hurricanes minimized the lead in the next half inning scoring off a CSU throwing error.
The Cougars extended it's lead to 6-2 in the seventh inning off of two hits.
Cody Ferguson plated
Ian King thanks to a single to center field and later scored off of a wild pitch. Brabston then hit an infield single, plating
Andrew Rubin.
Brabston led CSU with two hits while McGlumphy tallied three RBI.
Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern will play game three on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Americus, Ga.
