AMERICUS, Ga. - A late game comeback from Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia Southwestern State University beat the Columbus State University baseball team on Sunday afternoon. With the 8-11 loss, the Cougars fall to 27-16 (13-8 PBC) while the Hurricanes improve to 29-13.
Both teams were fighting back-and-forth in the first three innings of play until Georgia Southwestern broke out in scoring in the seventh and eighth innings to steal the victory from the Cougars. The first few runs were all from home runs. GSW took a 3-0 lead in their first at-bats from a three-run homer, but CSU's
Luke Hasty minimized the Hurricanes' lead to just one run after launching a two-run shot in the top of the second. GSW extended the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the second with a solo homer.
The Cougars passed the Canes in the third inning, however, thanks to scoring on an infield error by GSW and

Kole McGlumphy and
Win Johns to make the score 5-4. CSU tallied another run in the seventh as
Andrew Rubin scored off a wild pitch. The Canes tied the game in the bottom of the inning off a wild pitch and a bases loaded groundout-double play.

Colby Brabston hitting a RBI single up the middle, plating
Cody Ferguson. However, GSW scored five runs off of two hits and two errors in the bottom of the inning to take an 11-7 lead. The Cougars showed some fight in the their last at-bats as Ferguson singled up the middle to score McGlumphy.
