COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University split a doubleheader against Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia College State University on Saturday. With the loss, the Bobcats take the three-game series and the Cougars fall to 28-19 (14-10 PBC).
Game 1: CSU 8 GCSU 1

Trace Goforth pitched a complete-game in the Cougars 8-1 win over the Bobcats to open the doubleheader. The sophomore improves to 7-2 on the mound after striking out nine batters and allowing seven hits.

The game was scoreless until CSU broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring three runs off four hits and one error. With runners on first and third,
Kole McGlumphy singled into right center field, scoring
Colby Brabston from third.
Andrew Rubin singled to right field to score
Ian King, and
Cody Ferguson hit a deep sacrifice fly to right field, plating McGlumphy.

King extended the Cougars' lead to 4-0 in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to center field to score
Derek Wylie. In the sixth,
Isaiah Hernandez ripped a two-run RBI single through the left side, plating
Jackson Chizek and Rubin to make it a 6-0 ball game.

CSU made it 8-0 in the seventh after a bases loaded walk and a Rubin sac fly to right field, scoring
Win Johns. Georgia College scored their only run off a RBI single up the middle in the top of the ninth.

Chizek led the Cougars going 3-for-4 while Rubin, McGlumphy and Hernandez tallied two RBI.

Game 2: CSU 5 GCSU 7

Georgia College got on board first in the top of the second inning, scoring three runs off of three hits. The Cougars minimized the Bobcats' lead to one run in the bottom of the third inning thanks to two doubles from Wylie and
Cole Eison.
Wylie then gave CSU a 4-3 lead in the fifth, launching a two-run bomb over the right field fence, but GCSU took back the lead in the seventh inning, scoring two runs off of two hits.

The Cougars answered back in the eighth, as Chizek laid down a perfect squeeze-bunt to first base, scoring
Trevor Gruszka from third. However, the Bobcats scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take back the lead and win the game.

Eison and Brabston each recorded three hits for the Cougars and Wylie tallied three RBI.
Peyton Burton received the loss after 2.2 innings pitched, giving up two runs and three hits.

Columbus State will travel to Montevallo, Ala. on Tuesday, April 23 for a nonconference matchup against the University of Montevallo. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
