COLUMBUS - After trailing 9-1 with three innings left of play, the Columbus State University baseball team made a huge come back to beat USC Beaufort 10-9 on Saturday at Ragsdale Field.
The Sand Sharks didn't waste any time scoring against the Cougars after being defeated 13-4 on opening night of the PBC series. USCB scored two runs in the first inning off of two hits before tallying seven runs in the third to take a 9-0 lead over CSU. In the third, the Sand Sharks recorded six hits, including a double and a triple.
After the big USCB inning, the Cougars could only add one run to the scoreboard, thanks to
Win Johns who hit a RBI single to left center to plate
Isaiah Hernandez.Â
Just like the Sand Sharks, the Cougars had a huge sixth inning, scoring seven runs off of five hits to come within one run of USCB.
Luke Hasty,
Seth Nelson and
Derek Wylie each ripped RBI doubles, and Nelson's and Wylie's doubles knocked in two-runs each. Hernandez hit a two-run RBI single to right field also.Â
Jackson Chizek put CSU ahead in the seventh, hitting a two-run RBI single up the middle to plate both Nelson and Hasty, giving the Cougars a 10-9 lead. The Sand Sharks couldn't find a way to score again as
Leo Giannoni shut them down in the last three innings.Â
Giannoni collected the win on the mound after allowing just one hit and striking out three. Hasty led CSU with three hits while Hernandez, Wylie and Nelson each tallied two.
