COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team defeated Peach Belt Conference opponent USC Beaufort on Sunday 2-0 at Ragsdale Field, sweeping the three-game conference series. The Cougars improve to 25-14 (12-6 PBC).
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when CSU's
Jackson Chizek launched a two-run home run over the left field wall to put the Cougars on board 2-0. CSU starting pitcher
Trace Goforth had an impressive showing on Sunday, pitching a complete-game, striking out 13 and only allowing four hits. With the win, Goforth improves to 6-2 on the season.
Columbus State out-hit the Sand Sharks 11-4 and
Ian King led the Cougars going 3-for-4. Chizek and
Cody Ferguson each recorded two hits.
