GREENWOOD, S.C. - The nationally ranked Columbus State University tennis teams swept two matches against PBC foe Lander University on Saturday in Greenwood, S.C.
Men: CSU 4 LU 3
The fourth-ranked Cougars beat the 14th-ranked Bearcats 4-3. With the win, the Cougars improve to 10-5 (2-1 PBC).
CSU swept doubles play, with the pairs of
Camilo Cano/
Justin Welz and
Thomas Cardona/
Elias Peter winning their matches 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles play, Cano beat his opponent 6-4, 6-1 in the third spot and
Andreas Sandrone won 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 playing in the fifth spot to tie the match with the Bearcats as Lander took matches one, two and four. Peter clinched the Cougar victory, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the sixth spot.
Women: CSU 6 LU 1
The 14th-ranked Lady Cougars won 6-1 against the Bearcats and improve to 10-5 (3-0 PBC).
The Lady Cougars took all three matches in doubles play as the duos of
Mariana Ramirez/
Nikoline Gullacksen,
Isadora Oliveira/
Yelena Labat and
Agostina Bigotti/
Laura Pesickova won 6-4, 6-2 and 6-1.
Ramirez, Gullacksen, Oliveira, Bigotti and Labat each recorded victories in singles play. Pesickova lost to her opponent in three sets to give Lander their only point of the match.
