Baseball Beats West Alabama 5-2

Win Johns led the Cougars with two hits while Luke Hasty tallied three RBIs.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team beat the University of West Alabama 5-2 Tuesday afternoon at Ragsdale Field. With the win, the Cougars improve to 26-14 while the Tigers fall to 18-21.

CSU took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a Win Johns RBI single to center field, plating Cody Ferguson. The Tigers took the lead in the third and fourth innings scoring one run in each, with a RBI single and a solo home run.

The Cougars took back the lead in the fifth inning. With bases loaded, Kole McGlumphy walked, scoring Ferguson again. Right after the walk, Luke Hasty ripped a bases-clearing triple to right field, making it a 5-2 ball game.

Johns led CSU with two hits while Hasty tallied three RBI. Leo Giannoni earned the win on the mound after 2.0 innings of work, striking out three. He is now 7-1 on the season. Peyton Burton grabbed his fourth save of the year after 2.0 innings of work.

Columbus State will travel to Americus, Ga. on Friday, April 12 to play a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Georgia Southwestern State University through Sunday. The first pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m.
