No. 17 Lady Cougars Roll Past Lincoln Memorial in 3-0 Victory

Columbus State remains undefeated through three games played

COLUMBUSNo. 17 Columbus State University women's soccer continued action on Wednesday afternoon with a home clash against Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.), hosting Military Appreciation Day at the Walden Soccer Complex.

The Lady Cougars (3-0-0) rolled past the Railsplitters (1-1-0) in a 3-0 victory, scoring a pair of goals in the first half to help continue the season unblemished.

First Half

Columbus State was on the prowl early with a threatening attack that put Lincoln Memorial on their heels. Shots on target coming from Emma Beddow and Sophia Leal pressured the visiting keeper into a pair of saves within the first 60 seconds of action. Unfortunately for LMU, the ball got knocked in the net by a defender as Beddow was trying to find Sage Smith near the center of the box, giving CSU a one-goal advantage in the third minute.

CSU produced five more shots with a pair of attempts from Vanessa Aviles and Lizz Forshaw landing on frame for another couple of saves by the LMU keeper. The Lady Cougars found the back of the net once again off a corner and a miscued clearance by the LMU defense. Beddow regained possession of the ball and slotted it home for the 2-0 lead at the 19:46 mark.

The Lady Cougars finished the first half with a 14-0 shot differential and landed eight attempts between the posts. LMU's keeper recorded six saves in the first 45 minutes of action.

Second Half

The second half started off quickly for the Lady Cougars, scoring in the 47th minute as Beddow assisted Sarah Hungerford for her second goal of the season to give CSU a 3-0 advantage. Columbus State produced only three shots on goal in the second half and totaled six shots overall.

Lincoln Memorial began pressuring the CSU defense late in the contest, notching three shots within a seven-minute span. The Railsplitters' lone shot on goal was denied by Roxy Matthews at the 73:06 mark, thwarting any chance of redemption for the visitors.
