No. 17 Women’s Soccer Shines in Florida with 4-1 Win Over (RV) Embry-Riddle

Three new goal scorers find the back of the net in a solid road victory

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 17-ranked Columbus State Women's Soccer team traveled to the Sunshine State this weekend for a Saturday matchup at (RV) Embry-Riddle (Fla.).

The Lady Cougars (4-0-0) shined in a 4-1 win over the Eagles (2-2-0) in Daytona Beach, handing Embry-Riddle its second loss of the season.

First Half

Embry-Riddle started with promising chances early, but Columbus State created more opportune chances to score by recording shots on goal from Emma Beddow and Sophia Leal. Sarah Hungerford found the back for the third time this season off a corner from Beddow, heading the ball in after a poorly attempted clearance from the ERAU defense to give CSU a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.

Heidi Harris and the Lady Cougars were truly tested with shots on goal halfway through the first 45 minutes of play. Grace Foyer forced a save by Harris in the 24th minute while Ida Zetterberg hit the post in the 26th minute. The Eagles also notched two more shots on frame at the 30th minute and the 40th minute for another pair of saves by Harris.

Columbus State netted one more goal before the break as Juanita Escobar connected for her first goal of the season with the help of Elle Henschel for a 2-0 lead in the 43rd minute. Both sides managed to record 10 shots apiece, but the Lady Cougars held an 8-3 advantage in shots on frame.

Second Half

Not much was going for either side to start the second half until the 54th minute as Lauren Barnes found the back of the net in a solo effort to boost the Lady Cougars to a 3-0 advantage.

Columbus State would go on to take a 4-0 lead in the 88th minute with Faith Knoedler connecting on a pass from Beddow for her first goal of the season. The Eagles finished in positive fashion, scoring at the 89:19 mark for a 4-1 scoreline.

Both sides finished with nine shots each in the second half, but the Lady Cougars led 5-2 in shots on goal.
