COLUMBUS – No. 25-ranked Columbus State men's basketball took on USC Aiken Saturday evening in the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center for the sixth Peach Belt Conference game.
The Cougars (14-2, 5-1 PBC) ruled over the Pacers (11-5, 4-2 PBC) with an 83-65 win, moving to a 4-game winning streak.
First Half
Columbus State opened the scoring with Jehloni James off a defense rebound and Wisdom Uboh from the three. Within the following four minutes, there was a 9-6 stretch with James and Roman Son getting three-pointers to a score of 11-10
With eight minutes remaining, Uboh continued his dominance of the half by collecting 10 points and two assists and the Cougars went up by 12 points. USC Aiken struggled to connect as they had five turnovers with Columbus State stealing three times to push the score 29-17
The Pacers made hardly any progress while James, Uboh and Jarrett Adderton combine 33 points together to close out the first half with a score of 46-22. The Cougars dominated from all over the court with 51.4% (18-of-35) from the field, 30.8% (4-of-13) from the three, and 66.7% (6-of-9) from the free throw line. James led the stats in rebounds with a total of seven, five being in the defensive half.
Second Half
USC Aiken had the ball for the start of the second half but did not keep it for long as Adderton made a layup that was assisted by Uboh. The Pacers made their ninth turnover of the game with James to increase the lead by 24 points with a dunk with 17 minutes left in the half.
CSU went on a 12-4 run streak that James continued to lead. With nine minutes left in the game, Jordan Mitchell made his second steal of the game to assist Masiah Jones in a dunk that gave CSU a score of 63-39. Mitchell converted two free throws to make the Cougars 12-of-16 from the charity line. Kordell Brown comes onto the court with immediate impact with a free throw and layup to increase the Cougars reign over the Pacers.
James made two dunks and two threes with less the four minutes left in the game to make the score 83-60, giving him a total of 25 points. Nathan Eroh ended the scoring with 85-65 and gives CSU their fourteenth win for the season.
