COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University women's soccer team delivered a Homecoming performance to remember on Saturday afternoon, storming past USC Aiken 9–1 at the Walden Soccer Complex. In front of a spirited crowd, the Lady Cougars put on an offensive showcase, with five different players finding the back of the net.
Payton Conti wasted no time igniting the Cougar attack, striking twice in the opening ten minutes to set the tone. USC Aiken briefly cut the deficit in the 28th minute on a goal from Lexi Blasberg, but Columbus State quickly regained control.
Mia Robinson restored the two-goal cushion with a composed finish in the 34th minute, and
Juanita Escobar scored just before halftime to give the Lady Cougars a commanding 4–1 lead at the break.
The second half saw Columbus State elevate its attack even further. Robinson netted her second goal of the match just two minutes after the restart, before
Sarah Hungerford stole the show. The Richmond Hill native completed a stunning second-half hat trick with goals in the 50th, 54th, and 58th minutes, bringing her season total to ten.
Adding to the fireworks,
Michelle Medina converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute, marking her fifth goal of the season. Goalkeepers
Heidi Harris and
Huda Sayedzada split time in the net, with Harris earning the win in sixty minutes of work.
With the win, Columbus State improves to (7–5–1) overall and (5–2–0) in Peach Belt Conference play, while USC Aiken falls to (5-6-2) and (2-4-1) in Conference play.
