MORROW, Ga. – The Columbus State University Women's Soccer team turned in its most dominant performance of the season Wednesday evening, blanking Peach Belt Conference foe Clayton State 6–0 at Laker Field.
The Lady Cougars (6-4-1, 4-1-0 PBC) wasted little time seizing control, as
Avery Williams struck just four minutes into the match to set the tone.
Sarah Hungerford doubled the lead in the 15th minute off a setup from
Michelle Medina, before
Shania Wegesend added another tally in the 31st minute to give CSU a commanding 3–0 halftime advantage.
The second half was all Columbus State as Hungerford caught fire, completing her hat trick with back-to-back goals in the 52nd and 53rd minutes—one coming via a penalty kick.
Elle Henschel capped the scoring surge in the 55th minute with her first goal of the season, assisted by
Mia Robinson.
Defensively, the Lady Cougars were rock solid, holding the Lakers (3-6-1, 2-4-0 PBC) to just eight total shots. Goalkeepers
Heidi Harris and
Huda Sayedzada combined for four saves to preserve the shutout.
Hungerford led the way with three goals, while Williams, Wegesend, and Henschel each chipped in one. Assists came from Medina,
Payton Conti, and Robinson. The victory marks CSU's fourth win in conference play and its second straight shutout.
