COLUMBUS – The Columbus State Women's Basketball team wasted no time making a statement in their season opener, steamrolling Tusculum 103–47 on Friday night in the Region Crossover at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
The Lady Cougars came out flying, pushing the pace, trapping everything in sight, and getting contributions from every corner of the roster. Columbus State scored 26 points in the first quarter and never looked back, stacking runs each period and holding Tusculum to just seven points in the opening frame.
The defensive pressure set the tone from the start, as the Lady Cougars forced 48 turnovers and converted them into 57 points, while the bench contributed a massive 56-point boost.
Letiya Reeves led the way with a 16-point performance on 5-of-6 shooting to go with four steals.
Aaliyah Ferrell added 14 points in a strong two-way outing,
Simone Lett posted 13 points and six rebounds, and
Nadea Smith went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field for 10 points.
Jamilah Jackson brought a spark off the bench with six rebounds and three steals.
With 54 points in the paint, 33 fast-break points, and a relentless tempo from start to finish, the Columbus State controlled the night from wire to wire. By the final horn, CSU had cracked the century mark and sent a clear message to open the season: this team is fast, deep, and ready to run.
