MORROW, Ga. – Columbus State ran into a hot-shooting Catawba squad on Friday evening, dropping a 97-72 decision in the Clayton State Classic at The Loch.
The Cougars came out trading shots early and hung around for much of the first half, but Catawba's perimeter game and a huge advantage on the glass eventually broke things open. The Indians knocked down 14 threes and pulled in 45 rebounds.
Marlon Smith led the way for the Cougars with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting, while
Lee Langstaff II and
Masiah Jones each added 11 points.
Jydon Hall finished with 10 points and three assists.
Despite the loss, Columbus State had bright moments offensively, shooting 24-of-62 from the field and getting production from several different contributors. The Cougars also knocked down 18 free throws and turned the ball over just eight times.
