COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University Women's Basketball team turned in an impressive performance Wednesday night, defeating Augusta University 70-56 in Peach Belt Conference action inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
The Lady Cougars forced 29 Augusta turnovers and converted them into 35 points, using pressure defense and transition scoring to pull away in the second half. Columbus State held a 30-27 advantage at halftime before outscoring the Jaguars 40-29 over the final two quarters.
Letiya Reeves led all scorers with 20 points, adding four steals and seven made free throws, while
Nekaya Williams scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting with seven rebounds.
Samara Saunders scored 13 points and eight rebounds, and
Alana Hankerson added 10 points with two three-pointers as the Lady Cougars balanced scoring with defensive intensity.
As a team, Columbus State scored 40 points in the paint and recorded 18 steals, continuing a trend of aggressive defense during conference play.
With the win, the Lady Cougars improved to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in Peach Belt Conference action. Columbus State returns to the court on Friday, December 19, hosting Francis Marion University inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m., and fans should wear their "Christmas Sweaters" to the game.
