COLUMBUS – It was a milestone night inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center, as the Columbus State University Women's Basketball team powered past Peach Belt Conference foe Lander University, 77–61, giving Head Coach
Matt Houser his 100th career victory.
The Lady Cougars (6–1, 1–0 PBC) set the tone early with an 18-point opening quarter and never trailed after the first few minutes, building a 39–21 lead by halftime. Columbus State's defensive pressure was relentless from start to finish, forcing 32 Lander turnovers, which the Cougars quickly turned into 36 points, a major difference-maker as they controlled the game's tempo.
Columbus State's offense was led by another standout night from
Letiya Reeves, who poured in 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting while adding five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Alana Hankerson delivered a spark off the bench with 17 points.
Samara Saunders added 12 points with strong interior play, and
Nekaya Williams contributed seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Lander (2–5, 0–1 PBC) was led by Quadija Langley's 20 points, but the Bearcats struggled to overcome the Lady Cougars' defensive pressure and the momentum swings created off turnovers.
With the victory, Coach Houser becomes one of the fastest in program history to reach the 100-win milestone, an achievement celebrated by players and fans following the final buzzer.
