COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University Men's Basketball team came up short on Saturday afternoon, falling 75-74 to Flagler College in a tight Peach Belt Conference game inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
The Cougars battled Flagler in a game that featured multiple lead changes and momentum swings. A late Flagler push, combined with perimeter shooting, was the difference in the final minutes. Columbus State trailed by just one at halftime, 31–30, and continued to trade baskets deep into the second half before the Saints were able to string together enough stops to escape with the narrow win.
Lee Langstaff II led Columbus State with 18 points, knocking down a pair of threes and going 8-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Jordan Mitchell scored 15 points and 9 rebounds, while
Jydon Hall added 13 points off the bench, including a clutch first-half three that helped spark a Columbus State run.
Marlon Smith scored 11 points and 7 rebounds, and
Pascal Volz provided 6 points and strong defensive energy.
As a team, Columbus State shot 23-for-56 (41%) from the field and 21-for-35 at the free-throw line, while generating 13 points off turnovers and 13 second-chance points. Flagler countered with ten made threes and a balanced scoring effort, including 17 points from Camden Andrews and 13 from Jordan Smith.
With the loss, the Cougars are now 6–3 overall and 1–1 in Peach Belt Conference play. Columbus State continues league action on Wednesday, December 10, traveling to Dahlonega, Ga., to take on the University of North Georgia at 7:30 p.m. inside Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center.
