LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Columbus State University baseball continued with game two of their weekend series at West Alabama on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (1-1) slipped in a 13-6 defeat against the Tigers (1-1) at Tartt Field in Livingston, Ala.
Columbus State took advantage of a one-out walk, and a single to place two runners on early in the first inning. CSU pushed a runner home on an RBI single from
Cayden Evans and advanced runners on an error.
Bryce Knox reached on an error in the following at-bat which brought home a second run.
Cole Eison capped off the inning with a three-run homer to boost the Cougars to a 5-0 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, West Alabama swept away the Cougars' advantage with six runs in the bottom of the third. The Tigers put together four singles, a double, a walk, and an error to score three runs before forcing a pitching change for CSU.
Connor Folds came in to relieve
Eric Moore and gave up three more runs while allowing just one base hit, which gave UWA a 6-5 advantage.
In the top of the fourth,
Landen Jensen opened with a walk before eventually crossing home plate on an RBI single from
Cody Ferguson to level the game at six runs apiece. Unfortunately, CSU tallied additional hits from Evans and Knox, but left the bases loaded to close the inning.
West Alabama moved to an 8-6 lead in the fourth with a two-run homer and followed with a solo shot in the fifth for a 9-6 edge. After scoreless efforts in the sixth and seventh innings, the hosts added five hits to the score sheet to help score four more runs, highlighted with a two-run home run to seal a 13-6 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- A total of five Cougars notched two hits each with six individuals scoring runs.
- Eison led the way with three RBIs, a homer, and one run scored.
- Five arms appeared on the mound with Moore earning the start. He tossed for 2.0 innings and gave up six earned runs.
- Folds picked up the loss with 1.1 innings of pitching.
- Sawyer Wilson recorded 3.2 innings on the bump and notched four strikeouts with Avery Stephens and Coates Massey helping close the game.
