MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Columbus State University baseball traveled to Miami Shores, Florida for a weekend series at Barry (Fla.).
The Cougars (3-5) dropped both games against the Buccaneers (6-2), slipping in a 7-3 defeat in game one and 5-2 in game two.
Game One – Columbus State 3, Barry 7
A one out double from Cole Eison was not enough to get things started in the opening frame as Barry struck first in the bottom half of the inning with four hits and one run scored. CSU followed in the second with a lead-off double from Bryce Knox and a one-out RBI single from Ian King to level the game.
After a scoreless third inning, the Cougars took advantage of a walk, a wild pitch, and an RBI single from Jackson Chizek to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Barry reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth with three hits and two runs scored.
The Buccaneers jumped out to a 7-2 lead with four hits and four runs scored in the bottom of the seventh. An RBI single from Warrick Wilmot gave CSU three runs in the eighth, but that was all Cougars could produce in the game one loss.

Game Two – Columbus State 2, Barry 5
Columbus State was knocking on the door early in game two, placing runners on with a walk and a base hit from Cayden Evans. Unfortunately, CSU left both stranded. The Cougars claimed a 1-0 lead in the second inning with an RBI base hit from Landen Jensen.
After scoreless third and fourth innings, the Buccaneers leveled the game with a lead-off hit followed by an RBI single. CSU swiftly responded in the sixth with an RBI flyout from Cody Ferguson after loading the bases on hits from Andrew Rubin and Jensen as well a hit-by-pitch from Ethan Crawley. Unfortunately, the Cougars could not add more to the lead, leaving the bases loaded.
Barry tied the game up with an RBI flyout in the bottom of the sixth before eventually taking a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single and a two-run homer.
Quick Hits
- Barry led 9-8 in hits with CSU giving up three errors and BU giving away two.
- Evans and Jensen both notched two hits each while Jensen and Ferguson gathered one RBI each.
- Both Rubin and Maddox Mueller scored the two runs.

- Bailey Thorne (1-1) received the loss after pitching for 2.0 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs, striking out two in the process.
