COLUMBUS – Columbus State University baseball started their busy week with a 9-0 win over Middle Georgia State University. With this win, CSU is now 6-5 while the Knights are 9-8.
After a scoreless first two innings, CSU took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Ian King reached base on a fielder's choice which brought Cole Eison up to the plate where he smashed a home run out to right field. In the fourth, a single to left field saw Cody Ferguson on base. He eventually returned home after an error by the Knights to bring the score 3-0 for The Cougars.
In the fifth, CSU added two more runs to make the score 5-0. Luke Miller ripped a triple to right field and was brought in from a sacrifice fly by Eison. Right after, Cayden Evans smashed his second home run of the season.
Middle Georgia continued to struggle with short outings in each inning. CSU took advantage of the Knights to go up two more runs in the sixth. A single alongside a stolen base for Jackson Chizek had him on second as Bryce Knox walked his way to third. Luke Miller ripped a single to the right side of the field, allowing Chizek and Knox to score.
A long bottom seventh for the Knights left the Cougars with a 9-0 score. Eison brought in an unearned run from a wild pitch. Another walk from MGSU brought in Tyson Kirkland as bases were loaded for the Cougars.
