YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Columbus State University baseball continued with game two of the weekend at #16 Young Harris on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (3-2) took game one against the Mountain Lions (3-2) at Zell B. Miller Field in Young Harris, Ga.
After a scoreless first three innings, the game was picked up in the fourth inning by both teams. Columbus State struck first after Bryce Knox hit a three-run homer to bring in Cody Ferguson and Cayden Evans. The Mountain Lions responded in the bottom fourth when Kade Smallwood hit a homer followed by another run scored off an error to pull the CSU lead down to one-run.
Evans added a run with an RBI single in the fifth inning after a two-out double from Ferguson to further extend the edge over the Mountain Lions, yet the hosts continued to respond. Three runs scored from YHC in the sixth inning leveled and eventually claimed a 5-4 lead.
After a scoreless seventh and eighth innings, the Cougars clutched up in the ninth with a two-out triple from Luke Miller to push one run in followed by an RBI base hit down the line from Cole Eison to capture a 6-5 lead. CSU was knocking on the door for more but closed the inning with the bases loaded. Young Harris notched a single in the bottom half of the inning, leaving two on base to close the game.
