COLUMBUS – Columbus State men's tennis hosted Belmont Abbey (N.C.) and Montevallo (Ala.) on Saturday for a doubleheader at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
The No. 8-ranked Cougars (5-4) took down the Crusaders (7-12) of Belmont Abbey in a 4-0 defeat to begin the day at 9 a.m. and followed with a 7-0 sweep of the Falcons (2-3) from Montevallo to wrap up the afternoon.
Versus the Crusaders, Andrea Sandrone and Elias Peter took a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles followed by a 6-1 No. 3 doubles win from Camilo Cano and Samer Al Tori to secure the doubles point. Cano, Sandrone, and Peter picked up singles points in No. 1, No. 4, and No. 5 singles, respectively. The other three matches were left unfinished.
Against the Falcons, CSU swept all three doubles matches and took five of the six singles matches in regulation. Benedek Szombathelyi opened with a 6-2 win in set one, dropped set two 6-4, and secured the tiebreaker 10-4 at No. 3 singles.
