COLUMBUS - Columbus State University men's track & field opened the season on home soil on Saturday, hosting the J.D. Evilsizer Invitational at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus.
The Cougars produced positive performances on the track and in the field events, gathering a handful of top 10 finishes as well as several podium placements.
Saturday's meet opened with field events in the morning and followed with the racing portion in the afternoon. Tereil Mitchum highlighted with a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.95m followed by a third-place finish from Raylene Magby with a mark of 14.20m. Jacere Cooper also picked up a ninth-place finish, throwing 13.39m. In the discus, Collin McKinnon led with a third-place finish tossing a mark of 39.40m.
For the jumps, Brandon Dodd and Kendall Parker finished with third and fifth place finishes with long jump marks of 6.81m and 6.62m, respectively. In the high jump, Zameron Boozer placed first with a mark of 2.00m followed by Jarvis Evans in fifth with a mark of 1.85m and Joey Turner in seventh with a mark of 1.80m.
In the pole vault, CSU swept the podium with William Player taking first with a mark of 5.00m followed by 4.40m from Camerin Rigdon in second and 4.40m from Alexander Kendall in third.
For the long-distance races, Owen Hartshorn captured first in the 1,500 with a time of 4:09.12 followed by Elijah Sires in fifth with a time of 4:13.89 and Mcdonald Tandoh in seventh with a time of 4:18.84. Sires also picked up sixth in the 3,000, racing for a time of 9:40.21.
Chavis Johnson sprinted to seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 10.94s followed by Dante Walls in 10th with a time of 11.06s. As for the 400m race, Jayden Powell finished in fourth (50.40s) and Anthony Brown Jr. finished in eighth (52.20s). Tandoh also gathered a third-place finish in the 800m race with a time of 2:01.75.
Christopher Coleman, Reece Pasley, Ryan Flowers, and Logan Fisher finished in fifth (17.49s), sixth (18.46s), eighth (19.88s), and ninth (19.99s), respectively in the 110m hurdles. Tristen Cole went for a time of 57.13s in the 400m hurdles for second with Flowers and Godwin Fini finishing in fifth (1:03.61) and ninth (1:12.66), respectively.
In the relays, CSU took fourth in the 4x100m and went eighth, ninth, and 10th in the 4x400m relay.
