Cougars Blow Past AUM on Tuesday Afternoon

CSU defeated AUM 14-2

COLUMBUS – Columbus State baseball had themselves a day in Montgomery, Al as they faced Auburn-Montgomery in a Tuesday afternoon single game match-up. 

Columbus State ran up the score 14-2 to give the Cougars the road trip win. Columbus State moved to a 10-10 record while AUM moved to 7-16.

The Cougars opened the game by getting on base quickly after Ian King got walked and Cole Eison singled to right field. Cody Ferguson got his first hit of the game with a double to right center field which brought in King and Eison. AUM quickly responded after a home run brought in two runs. 

Luke Miller opened the third inning with a home run. In the fourth, Ferguson tallied another hit to open the inning followed by a home run from Warrick Wilmot to go up 5-2 against the Warhawks. 

The Cougars recorded their fourth home run of the game after Eison and Ferguson opened the fifth inning with one apiece. Columbus State ended the fifth inning with a 9-2 lead over the Warhawks. 

In the seventh inning, Rubin smashed a single to the shortstop allowing him to get on base. After Jackson Chizek and Luke Miller got walked, the bases were loaded for CSU as a double from King brought in Rubin and Chizek for the 11-2 lead. 

The Cougars ended the game one inning early after three more runs were scored in the eighth inning. CSU tallied five hits while leaving two on base to end the game.

Inside the Numbers

  • CSU led with seventeen hits while AUM only had three. 
  • Four different Cougars recorded home runs. Miller and Wilmot collected their second home run of the season while Eison collected his fourth and Ferguson with his third. 
  • Ferguson led with four hits, three runs, three RBIs, and a 1.600 slugging percentage. 
  • Nine different recorded hits while six of those had two hits or more. 
  • Six different pitchers saw action on the mound as the Cougars totaled nine strikeouts for the evening. 
  • Tucker Starling got his fourth win on the mound after tossing for two innings with two strikeouts and zero runs, hits, or walks. 

Next Up

  • Columbus State will stay on the road as they head to Greenwood, S.C. for a Peach Belt Conference three-game match-up against Lander this weekend. Game one will take place on Friday, March 14 at 5 p.m. ET.
