GREENWOOD, S.C. – Columbus State University baseball continued the series at Lander (S.C.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (10-12, 2-6 PBC) dropped an 11-6 loss to the Bearcats (18-7, 7-1 PBC) to go 0-2 in the series.
Columbus State 6, Lander 11
The hosts held CSU hitless in the first two frames of play while scoring a run in the first and second to lead by two runs. Columbus State responded with a three-run third inning notching three hits. Luke Meszar led with a lead-off single before Andrew Rubin notched an RBI single. Ian King drove in a pair with a two-out base hit up the middle to claim a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately, Lander answered with three hits including an RBI single to recapture the lead.
Lander added another three hits in the bottom of the fourth, leaving two runners stranded after scoring a run off a lead-off triple and an RBI single. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Bearcats blasted the door open with four hits and seven runs, highlighted by a three-run homer to lead 11-3.
Columbus State produced two hits in the seventh and left a total of four runners stranded between the seventh and eighth inning. The Cougars sparked a three-run ninth inning with five hits, but it was not enough to mount a comeback effort.
