Baseball Goes Up 2-0 On The Series Versus USC Aiken

The Cougars won 4-3 on Saturday

COLUMBUS – Columbus State baseball defeated USC Aiken on Saturday afternoon during game two of the weekend series.

The Pacers struggled offensively for the first three innings, however, Columbus State had no trouble producing hits. Luke Miller opened the third inning with a double to left field followed by a single from Ian King. Cayden Evans stepped up with two Cougars on base and blasted a home run to right field to give CSU a 3-0 lead. 

USC Aiken responded in the fourth inning after a double followed by a stolen base and a sacrifice fly got them on the board. In the fifth inning, the Pacers added another run after they ripped a home run to left center field. 

After Bryce Knox walked the first two bases, then advanced third off a ground out bunt, he came home for the Cougar's fourth run after Jackson Chizek hit a sacrifice fly. Another home run by the Pacers put USC Aiken back within just one run in the seventh inning. 

Inside the Numbers

  • USC Aiken led with eight hits while CSU had five. 
  • Luke Miller led with two hits as King, Evans, and Chizek had one hit apiece. 
  • Evans brought in 3 RBIs, and Chizek brought in only one. 
  • Eric Moore tossed for six innings with eight strikeouts, five hits, two runs, and one walk. 
  • Peyton Burton pitched the final two innings as he tossed two strikeouts with zero runs, hits, and walks.
