COLUMBUS – Columbus State University baseball wrapped up the series against USC Aiken on Sunday afternoon at Ragsdale Field.
The Cougars (12-15, 4-8 PBC) dropped an 11-7 loss to the Pacers (14-16, 6-6 PBC) despite leveling the game twice. However, CSU secured the first PBC series of the season after taking the first two contests.
Columbus State 7, USC Aiken 11
Columbus State busted the game wide open with an RBI single from Cayden Evans and a three-run homer from Cole Eison for a four-run advantage in the first inning. In addition, Luke Miller and Bryce Knox both walked while Ian King recorded a single.
After a scoreless second inning, the Pacers produced three base hits and a run in the top of the third inning before taking the lead with a grand slam to lead 5-4. The Cougars swiftly answered with a run driven in from Warrick Wilmot to level the game at five apiece in the bottom half of the third frame.
Another scoreless inning would pass in the fourth before the visitors claimed another lead in the fifth inning. After a one-out triple, the Pacers would go on to take a 6-5 lead off an effort from the Cougars. CSU answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with a double from Evans followed by an RBI single from Knox.
USC Aiken would go on to lead 7-6 in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly scoring a run. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Pacers added another four runs to the tally in the seventh with another grand slam to lead 11-6. An RBI single from Wilmot cut the deficit back to four runs, but unfortunately that was all the threatening offensive production CSU would manage to produce to close the game.
