COLUMBUS – Columbus State baseball fell 4-7 to Flagler in game one of the three game series on Friday night.
Bryce Knox opened the scoring for Columbus State in the second inning with a home run to left field. Flagler responded in the third inning after an opening walk put a Saint on base. Flagler ripped a single followed by a double which brought in two runs for the Saints. Flagler ran up the score after they smashed a home run to left field to bring in two more runs.
Flagler did not hold their lead long as Columbus State responded in the bottom third with three runs to tie the game. Jackson Chizek struck first with a double to left field and a wild pitch allowed him to advance to third base. Luke Miller brought in Chizek after he grounded out to second base. Andrew Rubin got his first hit of the game with a double to right field. A sacrifice fly from Knox brought in Rubin and a double by Cody Ferguson brought in Cayden Evans to tie it up 4-4.
In the fifth inning, Flagler smashed another home run for a three-run RBI for a 7-4 lead. A huge outing for Christian Harmon in the seventh inning after he got himself into trouble with bases loaded, but left them stranded.
Inside the Numbers
- Knox, Rubin, and Ferguson tallied two hits apiece with Knox collecting his second home run for the season.
- Flagler led with eight hits, followed by CSU with seven hits.
- Flagler's two home runs brought in five runs.
- Ryan Suppa started on the mound as he tossed for 4.1 innings with seven runs, six hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts.
- Tucker Starling appeared on the mound for 1.2 innings as Harmon tossed for the last three innings.
