COLUMBUS – Columbus State men's tennis welcomed fourth-ranked Valdosta State (Ga.) to the John W. Walden Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars (8-8) fell to the Blazers (11-0) in a 5-2 defeat.
Columbus State fell to an early deficit with the guests taking both #1 and #2 doubles as the pair of Andrea Sandrone / Elias Peter fell 6-4 and the duo of Benedek Szombathelyi / Yike Liu were defeated 6-3.
As for singles play, Camilo Cano forced three sets but fell short, going 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 at #1 singles. Samer Al Tori slipped up 3-6 and 2-6 at #2 singles while Sandrone managed to secure the #3 line with 6-3 and 7-6 (7-4) wins.
Szombathelyi fell in two sets at #4 singles, 2-6 and 6-7 (7-3) with Peter battling in a three-set defeat at #5 single, 6-3, 2-6, and 5-7. Liu secured what would be the final team point for CSU at #6 singles, winning 6-3 and 6-2.
