DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Powered by a pair of event titles and multiple scoring performances across the board, the Columbus State University men's track and field team wrapped up the opening day of the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Championships in third place with 58 team points on Monday.
Brandon Dodd turned in one of the highlights for CSU, winning the men's long jump with a leap of 7.39 meters to earn 10 points. Dodd's mark made the NCAA DII provisional standard by .07 meters.
Cristian Sumo added another individual title for the Cougars by clearing 4.70 meters in the pole vault, leading a dominant showing in the event.
William Player (4.55m) finished second and
Camerin Rigdon (4.55m) placed third, while
Alexander Kendall (4.40m) and
Drake Dalton (3.95m) also scored valuable points to bolster CSU's total.
In the hammer throw,
Joshua Dare delivered a second-place finish with a toss of 46.98 meters, while
Tereil Mitchum followed closely in fourth at 46.65 meters.
The Cougars were also strong in the jumps as
Zameron Boozer cleared 1.90 meters to finish third in the high jump. In the same event,
Joey Turner,
Kirk Seeley, and
Jarvis Evans each cleared 1.80 meters to round out CSU's presence.
On the track,
Dante Walls advanced to Saturday's finals in two events. Walls posted a time of 15.38s in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries to qualify fourth overall and ran 55.20s in the 400-meter hurdles to qualify second. Mark Ravenscraft (56.23) and
Tristen Cole (57.77) also qualified for the 400-meter hurdles final, ensuring CSU multiple scoring opportunities.
Nicholas Phillips secured a point for the Cougars with an eighth-place showing in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line in 10:23.76. In the decathlon,
Reece Pasley and
Logan Fisher represented CSU, combining to score in multiple disciplines including the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400m.
Columbus State trails only two teams entering the final day of competition and will look to capitalize on multiple finals appearances on Tuesday.
