COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University Women's Soccer team delivered an emphatic performance Tuesday evening, rolling past Middle Georgia State 7–0 at Walden Soccer Complex.
The Lady Cougars (4-3-0, 2-0-0 PBC) wasted little time seizing control, generating relentless pressure with 19 first-half shots and 11 corner kicks.
Mia Robinson opened the scoring in the 21st minute, slotting home her first goal of the season. Just six minutes later,
Abigail Akerson doubled the advantage off assists from
Skye Tumbelty and
Michelle Medina.
Medina kept the attack rolling in the 35th minute with a goal of her own, and
Shania Wegesend capped the half with a strike in the 41st minute, sending CSU into the halftime up 4–0.
Columbus State didn't let up in the second half.
Sarah Hungerford scored her second goal of the season in the 53rd minute, followed minutes later by Akerson's second tally of the match, assisted by Hungerford. Wegesend then added her second of the night in the 64th minute to complete the scoring.
The Lady Cougars' defense was airtight, holding Middle Georgia State (1-2-3, 0-2-0 PBC) without a single shot for the full 90 minutes. Columbus State's goalkeepers combined for the shutout, marking the team's third clean sheet of the season.
