COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University Women's Basketball team earned a hard-fought 67-61 victory over Lander University on Tuesday evening in Peach Belt Conference action inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
Columbus State was led by
Letiya Reeves, who scored a game-high 26 points, connecting on four three-pointers and going 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. Reeves provided consistent scoring throughout the contest and helped seal the victory at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
Simone Lett gave Columbus State an immediate spark off the bench, finishing with 11 points and six rebounds, while
Sophia Williams had a complete performance with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
Nekaya Williams added eight points, and
Samara Saunders pulled down seven rebounds for the Lady Cougars.
The game featured six ties and five lead changes, with neither team able to gain full separation until the second half. Columbus State found its rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring Lander 26-17 behind improved shooting and aggressive defense. The Lady Cougars finished with a 45-41 rebounding advantage and converted 19 points off turnovers to swing momentum.
Despite a late push from the Bearcats, Columbus State closed the game by making defensive stops and knocking down crucial free throws down the stretch, improving the Lady Cougars to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Columbus State will return to action on Saturday, January 24, traveling to Greenwood, S.C., to face Lander University inside the Finis Horne Arena with tip-off set for 1:30 p.m.
