DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Columbus State University softball team opened the 2026 season with a 3-2 victory over Mount Olive on Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Mount Olive struck first in the top of the second inning when Emily Saw homered to center field to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
Columbus State answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs to take control. K. Wegienka delivered an RBI single, then later came around to score on a throwing error. A. Waites also crossed the plate in the inning as the Cougars moved in front, 2-1.
The Trojans evened the score in the fourth inning when Samantha Taylor scored on a sacrifice fly by Liz Thome, tying the game 2-2.
The Cougars regained the lead for good in the sixth inning as Holy Lynn connected on a solo home run to left field, providing the decisive run in the season-opening win.
Lily Miller earned the victory in the circle for Columbus State, throwing a complete game. Miller allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking one over seven innings of work.
