DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Columbus State University Softball team used a decisive seven-run third inning to secure a 9-4 road victory over Ferris State University on Saturday afternoon at the Embry-Riddle Tournament, held at ERAU Softball Stadium.
Columbus State overcame an early deficit by responding with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. After Ferris State built a 4-2 lead through the top of the third inning, the Cougars seized control in the bottom half of the frame, scoring seven runs on five hits.
The scoring surge began when
Ella Hopper advanced to second, and
Mary-Catherine Sorrell scored on a passed ball.
Anna Waites followed with a three-run home run to left field, plating
Nova Wright and Hopper to give Columbus State a 6-4 advantage.
Aubree Ussery added an RBI double later in the inning, and Sorrell capped the rally with a two-run single to push the Cougars' lead to 9-4.
Columbus State finished the game with 12 hits, led by Hopper, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Wright, who added two hits and two runs. Sorrell recorded two hits and drove in two runs, while Ussery also collected two hits and an RBI. Waites led the Cougars with three RBI's on her first home run of the season.

Hanna Deschambault earned the win in her season debut, allowing four runs over three innings.
Khloe Shears provided four strong innings of relief, surrendering just one hit while holding Ferris State scoreless to close out the contest.
Records: Columbus State improves to 2–0 on the season, while Ferris State falls to 2–1.
